What is a Veterinary Specialist?
Indianapolis Veterinary Specialists is staffed with board-certified and board-eligible veterinarians. A board certified veterinary specialist, or “Diplomate,” is a veterinarian who has successfully completed the board certification process in an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recognized veterinary specialty organization. To become board-certified, a veterinarian must complete an additional three to five years of advanced clinical training, pass a credentials review, and pass a rigorous certification exam as set by the given specialty organization. A board-eligible veterinarian is one who is working on completing the requirements in order to take the certification exam.
